This self-directed project involved the service design and branding of Jolt, a service which supports children with the challenges of tic disorders.
PROBLEM
Tics are a neurological condition which result in repetive and involuntary movements or sounds such as blinking, nodding or throat clearing. Whilst they normally don’t cause any physical harm to the child, the issues lie within the social impacts of tics such as bullying, stigmatisation and issues with self-esteem.
SOLUTION
Jolt provides children who have tics with digital and physical resources to help then cope with their condition, with a visual language which reflects the conditon and is engaging for the younger audience of 8-11 year olds.
The booklet was designed as a physical resource to educate children on their condition and how it may impact them emotionally. There a lots of activities that can help children cope with their tics, however, different things may work for one child but not another. Because of this, at the end of the booklet there is an activity sheet where the child can log each activity they did and how it impacted their tics so they can gain an understanding of what helps them personally.
